Blood, Sweat, & Tears

"Blood, Sweat, & Tears" is the phrase that inspired me throughout the creation of this piece, as I began painting the abstract background with martial arts striking techniques and finished it off with the refinement of painting a silhouette of a martial artist.

Whether I was dancing, performing, rehearsing, training, practicing, doing gymnastics, martial, circus arts etc. for hours on end in the studio, gym, stage, or dojo...I have heard this phrase often throughout my life.  As I was painting, it made me reflect on what the phrase means to me.

To me its a defining statement of my dedication to my art form and all of the uncountable hours, the effort, the hard work, the grime, the sacrifices, the sleepless nights, the sore muscles, the investment, the execution, the motivation, and the never ending resilience.

It's a statement that reminds me of all of the sweat that beads up on my forehead, that trickles down my spine, that drips on the floor, and to all of the blood that comes from torn calluses, ripped knuckles, and to all of the tears from hardships to the tears of pure joy & happiness.

It reminds me I am human and that we are all humans, and we are alive in this moment. It's a reminder to to me that even our Savior, when He walked the earth, He too experienced blood, sweat, and tears.  And it reminds me of how beautifully we are created in His image.
